The route starts outside of Theologos (Halatsuka), crosses an area of natural beauty which has many wild cypress trees. Is is named as a Wild life shelter and it is a protected area of "Natura".
The path has a medium rate of toughness as we uphill. It crosses the top spot of St.Elias - Ipsario with unique view and rare trees of Itamos which are perennial. Next the route passes the top of Ipsario mountain and follows the signals on the path, leads to the Climbing Club's shelter. This route is about 4-5 hours of walking.
Reaching to the sheltarm you can rest of even stay for the night, if you arrange such a thing with the manager of the Climbing Club, and continue the next day on another route (e.x. to get down the path that leads to Potamia and continue for the area "kagkelia" and from there to St.Elias over Theologs and from there back again to the starting spot. This round route is about 27 km, and besides walking, it is offered for mountain run as well.
St.Kiriaki-Kinira-St.Kiriaki (15 ΚΜ)
This route starts from St.Kiriaki, which is located 6 km over Theologos (access through ground road) and it downhill to "Kfoburo", then it continues to the side of mountain "Tsutsula" towards the area of Kinira, and it ends inside an area called "Mavri's Lakos', which is named after the dence plants. Sun don’t shine much in this place. A well made path that start from the location "Puros", where a little waterfall creates a magnificent rest spot, drives us to the area of Kinira.
In the way back, we will face the first but larger uphill of the route. Tough uphill road from location called "Karatzina", ends in a wide area named " Karakostena's kaliva", and a few meters away, we can find the water fountains of "Vlahos". From this spot, the view is beautiful with the Kinira bay and the island just beneath you. At the end of the route, we have a smooth uphill, that leads us back to the starting place.
Dipotamo - Kastri. An historical path
Route starts from place 'Dipotamo' which is located in the middle of the main road of Potos-Theologos. The path is in very good condition, is very easy to walk, and ends at the place 'Kastri'.
The top 'Kastri' which is like the front of a boat, at the valley between Potos and Theologos, is a mountain area. The first people who lived there were in the age of 5th millennium B.C, and we can tell that people continued to live there until the newer Stone Age. An the end of the Stone Age, this place is abandoned, but people came once more, centuries before, and start to develop during the age or Iron (1050-700 B.C) The final abandon of this location, happened when the Parians came at the island of Thassos, during the period of the second greek colonization. The Parians found at the north part of the island, Thassos, which took its name from the island and evolved into a strong city-state in the North Aegean.
1 The stoneage village of Kastri
The excavations that have been made over the years at the top of the hill Kastri, have found a newer aged village, which had a proper build and a well organized structure. Many storehouses were found there. The use of stone in house building was very typical of the Aegean architecture, which is all over Kastri.
2.The Later Copper Age and Primer Iron Age village
At the Later Age of Cooper, the archaeological researches in Thassos show a people movement from the seaside, to the inner country. This movement is complete during the Earlier Iron Age. The fortress-acropolis prove the seek of more secure areas in the mountain, areas which can provide farming, live stocking and the exploit of different kind of metals that each area had.
People returned to the mighty location of 'Kastri', in the middle of 2nd millennium, is a prove of this massive people movement from the seaside, to the inner country. As the years passed, Kastri became the more powerful centre of the island. Many smaller villages very close to Kastri, indicate that fact as well.
3.Tour inside Kastri and its graveyard
At the top of Kastri, the remains that the excavations had discovered, are no longer visible. There are covered by a lair of ground, to ensure that they wont harm over weather or human, until the end of the excavation research. A massive volume of stone remains at the north end of Kastri, must belong maybe to local acropolis or some other building of that time.
At the southwest location of this pile of stones, we can see a part of the rocky wall of Kastri, a wall that was there until the end of the Neolithic age. At the top of the southeast, the visitor can seek the saved remains of religious symbols and rituals. There are small pictures on the rocks, which show some kind of snakes. It was probably a small altar of Later Cooper Age and is similar to other altars of Aegean Thrace.
Impressive remains of cultural sample of Kastri, are the saved remains in a size of monument, some grave-style builts, which are located in four different graveyards all around the top "Kastri".
At the eastern and southern areas of the hill, we can see the location "Kentria", the place "Vrisudes" and the area of "Larnaki". All of them are in a distance of 1,5 to 2 km, north of the Kastri top.
