MTB THASSOS CUP
The classic mountain bike race of Thassos is conducted for 8th straight year, and is one of the most important races in the calendar of many athletes. Special characteristic of this race of 58kms, is the big grade of difficulty because of its special terrain and because of the 1850m of positive height difference.
The race includes, uphill at Korkario hill (350m height), uphill at Trikorfo mountain (825m height), which is the highest of the race, and St.Kiriaki (560m height). The last 18 kms is almost downhill and 11km of those are paths. The total 58km we hope to let you completely satisfied. The first 200m is normal cement street, next we have a pass at the main ring road and then smooth ground road which lead us, through an area of many olive trees, after 2 kms at the base of the hill. Another 3 kms of uphill, which is tough because of stone, bring us to the first level of the hill (Georgatza area) with 280 m height. A downhill is next, followed by uphill and another downhill again for 1 km, then we start to gain height and reach the highest spot of Korkario (350m height) and 8th km total in our race.
A big relaxing downhill, followed by a very small 50m uphill, will lead us to the first checkpoint (CP) at Stavri, 11kms from the start of the race. Downhill continues for another 2kms inside a beautiful area. A small uphill of 1 km in a rocky ground road will be tough, but after that we will reach the spot Trapezia. The track continues with ups and downs but there are easy, and we reach the 14th km of the race. From here, a large uphill of 10 km will lead us to Trikorfo, at 850 m of height, where the second checkpoint is. “Bikes to the hands!” for 80 m in a downhill climbing path, and then a big downhill for 8 km in a normal ground road. A technical street path of 500m leads us to the church of Panagia which is located at Theologos village.
We cross a rocky path and a wooden bridge and we found ourselves inside the village. Theologos village ends after 1 km at the playing ground. Next we have a right downhill of 50 m and then we will slowly gain height until we reach the top of St.Kiriaki. This spot is located at the 38th km of the race, and it has 560 m height. The third checkpoint is there. We leave the CP and we find a downhill rocky road -–be very careful here- and then we reach Theologos and after 6 km we meet the main road at Halatsuka.
After of 2,5 kms in the main road, we meet a right ground road which we will follow to reach the 49th km and then we follow the path of 2kms, until we meet the main road of Theologos-Potos. We cross it, and we find the 4th checkpoint of the race. Uphill for 1 km and then we reach a right old ground road which will lead us through a snake-type path, to Potos. A small ground road will lead us to the spot where we will pass to the main road again to the finish line in front the restaurant where we start, 58 km before.
